Since the outbreak of the pandemic the business sentiment in China has been on a roller coaster that has still not come to a standstill. With a strong start for the Chinese economy in 2021, many business leaders and managers had an optimistic outlook for the rest of the year. However, towards the end of 2021, growth started to slow, and the sentiment of the Chinese economy started to change. Coming into 2022, with travel restrictions still ongoing and city-wide lockdowns becoming more prevalent, the optimistic outlook that was present just a year ago had fast started to change.
Even though the short-term sentiment may be affected by the current challenges China is facing, the long-term sentiment still remains positive and due to their market size and manufacturing capabilities, will continue to play a central role in many companies’ global strategy.

WHAT IS THE SINO BENELUX SURVEY?
The Sino Benelux Business Survey is an initiative organized by the Benelux Chamber of Commerce and its relevant chapters across China. The survey is carried out with the official diplomatic- and trade representations of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg in China. This Sino Benelux Business Survey is currently in its 7th year of publication, in partnership with MSA China and is valued for its positive contribution to the Benelux business community in China.
The survey provides Benelux businesses, as well as other stakeholders, with comparative information about the business climate, challenges, and emerging trends in China. The 2022 edition of the survey takes a close look at how Benelux companies in China have been performing over the past year considering all the geopolitical, economic and regulatory challenges China has faced.
2022 SURVEY RESULTS
The results of the survey are presented in a comprehensive report, which is shared with the Benelux community across China. This survey was conducted between February and April of 2022 and provides extensive data on the performance of foreign businesses in China over the past year.
This year the results of the survey showed how COVID-19 had impacted business performance of firms in 2021, as well as the expected impact of revenue growth, which has in turn influenced investment over the next year in China. This survey allows us to identify some of the challenges that have faced foreign invested companies and the confidence of Benelux companies moving forward.
